Being a Man Of Many Aliases (some of which have never been shared, dear reader) after DJNoNo and before I was Captain Obvious (and round about the same time as DJ Contaminations) I did a single spoof track by Buyrite Soundsystem, a spoof of a few friends of mine and their Rolex/Wiley connection, and the general tendency for neon, whoop-whoop lazer noises and deep basslines predominant at the time. Except rather than a cool 4×4 UK bass (yes that’s what they called it, 4×4 rather than 2-step, silly term) mashup, Zig & Zag got in on the mix.

Must have been doing something right as APC posted it back in the day, but now I can confess it was I, L’Eclair. Although anyone with half a brain probly worked it out, given that it sounded like DJNoNo Goes Neon Hoxton Rave.

Watch this space because it seems the last 2-3 mashups bar the last (which was actually created before all of these, just to confuse!) have a theme and the next one is in keeping, I hope it goes down as well as that one! Another mashup I forgot to post was the special mashup I made for the wedding of sometime Radio Clash co-host Ian Fondue and the lovely Naomi…it’s a mix of Billy Idol’s White Wedding and Futurehead’s Hounds of Love – the latter cos it’s a real Crimes Against Pop track and they met at the club (I was a semi-regular there too – it’s very missed!).

A rarity a new mashup from me…a sequel of sorts to the Golden Mirror this I think works better…it’s Fleetwood Mac – Rhiannon vs Sia’s Breathe Me, a simple A vs B but I think has a great ambient mood, and makes me think of birds and wind and welsh goddesses.

Not sure if this should belong in the tbc or the Instamatic realm, it’s ambient so filed it under tbc. I’d thought I’d posted this, actually it was only posted on Twitter and Facebook just before I left for Egypt in November.

This is a rarity for me – an Elbow bootleg (!) given my “love” for that band but the music is really good here and bonus you don’t get to hear Guy Garvey wail. I’ve paired ‘Mirror Ball’ with Fleetwood Mac’s Gold Dust Woman, gives it an eery edge and as the original blurb for this said on Facebook it’s dedicated to Hathor, Mami Wata and Hatshepsut.

tbc aka Instamatic – the Golden Mirror

Just back from Egypt and South Africa (hey they put on a revolution just for me! So nice!) but I’ve still been busy in my absence. DJNoNo’s spooktastic Xmas mashup ‘BlacKmas Dub’ went up yesterday as part of the inaugural post for the 13 Days of Creepmas – a Halloween protest against the creeping of Christmas into other seasons. In fact I was really surprised in South Africa (and obviously Egypt as a Muslim country) there were no Xmas decorations, so when I arrived at Heathrow I had a shock as the deluge of Xmas-related eye-tinsel had already started….Anyway also on the mashup EP are mashups from Sticks Downey, Cheekyboy, G4Gorilla And DJ Useo. Captain Obvious and Instamatic go head to head in bloody dancefloor battle with this mashup – taking CO’s Party Groove combining Party Rock Anthem by LMFAO with Madonna’s Into the Groove from way back in June (see below!) and polishing it Instamatic style for a brand new dancetastic coating. And it gets a video!

Every DJ or mashup artist has special tracks they do for an event or just special battle weapons, not full releases or tracks just a combination or mix that works on a dancefloor rather than listening in headphones…this is one of those, done for Bootie London as a quickie but I think it’s a fun track, it’s not big or clever or ‘genre defining’ or someshit and will sink like a stone when everyone’s forgotten LMFAO (please do) but until then that Party Rock Anthem just SO reminds me of Madonna’s Into the Groove…
