Currently there are a few of the boots I played at Bootie in San Francisco:

• Push it Slut (French Avenue 2006) – An older boot from 2004 given a sparkly new treatment and basically redone from the ground up, adding Kraftwerk’s Tour de France to the existing mix of Avenue D’s ‘Do you Think I’m a Slut?’ and Salt n’ Pepa’s classic ‘Push It’

• Alison She’s So Horsey - sort of floating around for a while, this is an excercise in taking the piss out of Ms Alison’s ‘Ride a White Horse’ which like a lot of Goldfrapp wears it’s influences not only on it’s sleeve but pretty much has stolen the whole wardrobe! So I mixed it with Laidback ‘White Horse’ and a spoof of that called Disco Horse

• Ghetto Tits 2006 – another remake and a companion to Push it Slut, this is Benassi’s remix of Outkast’s Ghetto Musick mixed with various Peaches tracks, with added Scissor Sisters ‘Tits on the Radio’ and Salt n Pepa and a touch of Kraftwerk again for good measure. That’s if your measure is slightly tilting and vibrating from the bass, that is.

• LFO Can’t Turn Around – a bit of a cheat this one, it’s been released in the R-House mix before but never seperately, this mixes LFO ‘LFO’ with Farley Jackmaster Funk’s house classic ‘Love Can’t Turn Around’ and I’m rather fond of it.

A lot of my old boots/mashups haven’t been online for years – most people don’t know I’ve created something like 50+ mashups as Instamatic since 2003, more as DJNoNo and as tbc and various aliases…there have been quite a few mashups ‘retrospectives’ recently, and the odd request to find various tracks so here is my Greatest Misses…tracks that fell down the cracks!

Also a few tracks such as the Jump megamix (Jump x2 and Renegade Trouble) and the Too Many Egos haven’t been properly released before.

Also includes my first released mashup – FSOL vs Peaches, so you can see how far little I’ve developed…I did think ‘shall I redo some of these?’ or fix some of the mistakes I can hear now – I thought not since I hate that when say bands re-release ‘tweaked’ or ‘improved’ versions of old songs. Publish and be damned!

2. Too Many Egos - full version (various based on the odd acapella version of EgoRocker and a pisstake of several Ego-Rocker boots – a short 70s version that eventually appeared on Marty Batfreak’s 100 mix)
3. Em is a Naggin Fly (Crossover vs Eminem vs Roy Orbison – pisstake of Eminem boots and mrNo trying to prove Bush No.10 wrong when he said Eminem boots now didn’t work. Did thaNo succeed? Erm, pass…)

Cha Cha Like It’s Hot (Snoop Dogg ‘Drop it Like It’s Hot’ vs Starlight Strings ‘Unforgettable’)

I played this at Bastard to end my recent set, seemed to get a good response so I thought I would release it into the wild – this is the mastered and slightly tweaked version. Also think it might have been played at Bootie (?). Definitely one for the dancefloor – it was inspired by podcasting, and especially the Radio Clash podcast I do.

Includes Queen – “Radio GaGa”, Leftfield “Open Up” and Public Enemy “Burn Hollywood Burn”

I must have done something right tho, as Partyben span it before I went on (I’d already planned not to play it, but was using it to promote my Bootie appearance) and it’s been in not one but 2 of his SIXXMIXXes. Thanks, Ben! So I feel slightly happier with it now…

Stone Cold Roses

At Bootie I had a great time, met loads of great local bootleggers – some of the US’s best DJs and remixers – such as Adrian and Mysterious D, DJ Tripp, Partyben, Matt Hite, Dada and loads others….I was staying with DJ Jay-R – I still miss SF and hope to get back there soon. I was proud to be the first English bootlegger to play there (I think that’s right?) and I seem to have started a trend what with GHP, Payroll and Lionel Vinyl all going out to play since then! (not that I’m in their category, oh no…but I’m really proud that I was one of the early international guests at Bootie ) .

Smells Like Sylvester gets an honourable mention because it got me my airplay on XFM; and was my intro for Bootie. It’s Nirvana vs Sylvester ‘Mighty Real’ and the intro is Sandra Bernhard’s great tribute to the gold-lamed afro’d one. This is the rare full version played on the night, which mixes in Pansy Division’s ‘Smells Like Queer Spirit’ – the shorter version was the one played on XFM.

The next two were done for Bootie – I DJed at Bootie in San Francisco in September 2004, was a big thing for me, my first international gig and it went down well…which is good cos I was shitting myself.

Triple Spin is so called because it comprises a trilogy of ‘Spin’ tunes – the I-Blame-The-Toitles classic ‘Spin That Wheel’ over the top of Marilyn Manson’s ‘Spin Me Round (Like A Record) ‘ and the Dead or Alive original mixed in for good measure. What is it with Marilyn and goth-guitar cover versions? Anyway this is one of my faves…and then follows…
