As part of my run up to DJing in Saarbruecken, Germany next weekend (I’m on at 1am Saturday – well it’ll be Sunday by then – 16th May, Room 1 at the 6nul3 club, just before Pilchard and the Who Boys! You can see the flyer here) I’ve been producing quite a few mashups and getting back into the swing of things, along with doing some mashups for the 72 project (Timbearland and Instamatic are me .
Here’s one I may not play in Saarbruecken – it doesn’t currently fit in my set, but if the response is good I might play it It’s a A vs B of the Ting Ting’s Great DJ (7th Heaven Mix) which sounded a bit empty to me so I make it more squelchy, harder, more uptempo and nu-breaksy by adding Shut Up And Dance’s ‘Make the Needle Jump’ from their last excellent album ‘The Great British Public’. I hope you enjoy, and maybe will see some of you in Saarbruecken? Certainly I have several new tracks, an audio-visual extravaganza and a cracking set.
Oh and to those few who might have heard this before, this is the Mastered version, LOL.
OK I’ve been working on this mashup of Stereo MC’s vs Rolling Stones vs Benga vs Fun Boy 3 for a while – kind of a State of the Nation address in a mashup as regards how I felt in the run up to the US election, Georgia v. Russia, Iran and Iraq, Military Industrial Complex and various things…but history in the fact of Obama being elected president overtook me, so the paranoid worried bootleg seemed a bit at odds with the times.
So I’ve created two – one called (Fear) the full-length extended version with the Chris Rock intro, and a short radio version called (Hope) using Barack Obama’s recent speech in Chicago after he won the presidency – really they are different mashups, with a common basis.
Ground Shelter (Hope) - Stereo MC’s ‘Ground Level’ vs Rolling Stones ‘Gimme Shelter’ vs Benga ‘Lightbulb’
Ground Shelter (Fear)- Stereo MC’s ‘Ground Level’ vs Rolling Stones ‘Gimme Shelter’ vs Benga ‘Lightbulb’ vs Fun Boy 3 – ‘Lunatics Have Taken Over the Asylum’
Apologies to Shepard Fairey for abusing his wonderful artwork; and love goes out to Ian Fondue who gave me some tips on an earlier version – hope it works Ian!
Previously part of the ‘We All Kissed a Girl’ compilation, as an exclusive I thought I’d release this separately for those of you who one KP mash is possibly too many…basically I made Katy Perry angry and kiss L7 who are all about being a monster, grrr…with a few interjections from those Lesbians on Ecstasy.
Yes it’s like buses, you wait for bootlegs for ages then several come at once
Ever wondered what Fleetwood Mac would sound dubstep style? Well click below to find out!
White Witch Dub (Fleetwood Mac – Rhiannon vs Skream – Dub Period – apols to both!)
First heard in it’s original form on Skip to the End, this is quite a different sort of boot from me – dubby, moody and atmospheric; and about a mythological Welsh (Dub) Queen…with a lot of dubby production from yours truly, with some help from that Skream bloke
OK this was premiered at CMP 9 – I think this is fairly obvious and hope no-one has already done it, I finished it several weeks ago and have been scared since then someone would do it as well!
Basically the new Neon Neon (Gryff from Super Furry Animals and Boom Bip) is ace, but the track ‘I Lust U’ is more than slightly influenced by a certain Depeche Mode track, so I’ve mashed People are People and I Lust U together, with occasional interventions from Latour’s People Are Still Having Sex.
I think it’s brill and one of my best, but then I would would’nt I?
I did this one ages ago (in 2005) played it on the podcast as an exclusive (show 42 of course!) then never released it. Partly because it was an overused pella, and partly because I wasn’t happy releasing stuff at the time.
Fast forward to a few days ago, played it to a friend that went ‘wow’ and told me to release it…maybe everyone has gotten over the Dirrty Xtina overload 3 years later? Anyway listening back it’s actually very good!
I’m not dead just been busy doing the podcast (it now has a baby also) and very few mashups…well loads of mashups and long mixes, but the mashups never get finished LOL.
Until now, well Xmas – I created two new Instamatic tracks for the mashup compilation I put together called ‘This One’s for Joe’ in honour of Joe Strummer who died 5 years ago on December 22nd. Hope you enjoy them!
And please check out the other tracks, there are some real gems there, and the artwork I did all of that also.
Oriignally only posted over at Multiplty, but since they’ve gone a bit crap I’ll post here too.
Crazy Marvin – Gnarls Barkley ‘Crazy’ vs Marvin Gaye’s ‘I heard it through the Grapevine’ – Cee Lo really is divining the spirit of Marvin in his singing style
Juicy Clare – B52′s ‘Planet Clare’ vs Juicebox by The Strokes, making it rockier with *that* bassline.
New mashups and a new host site – remember http://mutantpop.multiply.com/music/ although I’ll post here whenever I post something big up, it’ll be good to check that too.
Currently there are a few of the boots I played at Bootie in San Francisco:
Push it Slut (French Avenue 2006) – An older boot from 2004 given a sparkly new treatment and basically redone from the ground up, adding Kraftwerk’s Tour de France to the existing mix of Avenue D’s ‘Do you Think I’m a Slut?’ and Salt n’ Pepa’s classic ‘Push It’
Alison She’s So Horsey - sort of floating around for a while, this is an excercise in taking the piss out of Ms Alison’s ‘Ride a White Horse’ which like a lot of Goldfrapp wears it’s influences not only on it’s sleeve but pretty much has stolen the whole wardrobe! So I mixed it with Laidback ‘White Horse’ and a spoof of that called Disco Horse
Ghetto Tits 2006 – another remake and a companion to Push it Slut, this is Benassi’s remix of Outkast’s Ghetto Musick mixed with various Peaches tracks, with added Scissor Sisters ‘Tits on the Radio’ and Salt n Pepa and a touch of Kraftwerk again for good measure. That’s if your measure is slightly tilting and vibrating from the bass, that is.
LFO Can’t Turn Around – a bit of a cheat this one, it’s been released in the R-House mix before but never seperately, this mixes LFO ‘LFO’ with Farley Jackmaster Funk’s house classic ‘Love Can’t Turn Around’ and I’m rather fond of it.
Download them all here or at myMultiply although as they are insisting on registration I’m going to be posting here more often!
‘Kodiak Moment’ promotional Instamatic CD – Artwork by Pheugoo
A lot of my old boots/mashups haven’t been online for years – most people don’t know I’ve created something like 50+ mashups as Instamatic since 2003, more as DJNoNo and as tbc and various aliases…there have been quite a few mashups ‘retrospectives’ recently, and the odd request to find various tracks so here is my Greatest Misses…tracks that fell down the cracks!
Also a few tracks such as the Jump megamix (Jump x2 and Renegade Trouble) and the Too Many Egos haven’t been properly released before.
Also includes my first released mashup – FSOL vs Peaches, so you can see how farlittle I’ve developed…I did think ‘shall I redo some of these?’ or fix some of the mistakes I can hear now – I thought not since I hate that when say bands re-release ‘tweaked’ or ‘improved’ versions of old songs. Publish and be damned!
Thanks to RevMenagerie who requested my Negativland / String Quartet mashup…
NOTE: Some of these tunes are severely NSFW – especially FCUKK Fashion…
Brightside Slippy(never totally finished since I was afflicted by a sudden inexplicable hatred of the Killers)
Fire (Bootie edit of a minimix – DJ Zebra mixed into Fire mix (Grandmaster Scott vs Radio4 vs Electric6 vs Trammps)
Jump minimix – Ludakriss / Jumpx2/ Renegade Trouble – first time online! (Made for Uprising 3.5, also played in part at Bastard -
Kid Carpet / Ludacris vs Kriss Kross / House of Pain vs Kriss Kross / Wildchild vs Beasties)
and from the DJNoNo canon, a few rarities:
I Love Happy Hardcore(Fuck Happy) – first DJNoNo boot, done for a Happy Hardcore competition where mrNo shows how much he likes Happy Hardcore…
Too Many Egos - full version (various based on the odd acapella version of EgoRocker and a pisstake of several Ego-Rocker boots – a short 70s version that eventually appeared on Marty Batfreak’s 100 mix)
Em is a Naggin Fly(Crossover vs Eminem vs Roy Orbison – pisstake of Eminem boots and mrNo trying to prove Bush No.10 wrong when he said Eminem boots now didn’t work. Did thaNo succeed? Erm, pass…)
