dirCaster hacked to use ID3v.2

Sunday, February 27th, 2005

I did this ages ago before I setup this blog, but I modded/hacked/buggered around with Ryan King's dirCaster to include ID3v.2 tags. If you don't know what dirCaster is, well created before PodCast-A-Matic, it is a PHP script that creates an RSS feed automatically from your ID3 tags in your MP3 - so all you do is upload the MP3 and voila! Instant XML goodness!

I stopped using it because I wanted a blog and because it can timeout with a lot of large files...but hey I'm not a coder! Maybe some of you PHP whizzes could fix/optimise that?

NOTE: This is probably best for those web/PHP geeks and not the novice user - I'm releasing this hack with no guarantees; no support, but feel free to use and adapt...if you do use it let me know, and maybe check out the fixes in dirCaster 0.4 which was released after this hack? I think he fixed the very same ampersand problem that I fixed but there may be other gremlins in there!

P.S. That's the old-skool meaning of 'hack' BTW, not the newer more 3l33t sad g33ky h4x0r version of silly script kiddies...

The Short and Long of it

Friday, February 25th, 2005

Here's a question: (what? he expect interaction from us? who does he think he IS? I will fight for my right to be a passive viewer, agressively and actively til death. Or the next commercial break, whichever somes sooner.)

Should the shows be shorter? They've been hovering around the 50min mark for a while now and that's with editing :-( Reason I'm asking is that I saw a comment on Bicycle Mark's blog saying my electronic show was "long ass" (fair comment :-D) but do you all think that?

Would RC in smaller, more manageable yet meatier crumblier chunks be better? The only reason I haven't is that I have SO much music to play and can never decide which to lose; and it always seems by the 30 min mark is when I'm hitting my stride - I hate it when you hear a show and hear a few songs and then it stops...but I suppose it leaves you wanting more?

Also wondering whether History of Mashups should be another show on the Radio Clash feed - yes you guessed it the delay for RC16 (which is in the can since earlier this week) is that I haven't recorded the History bit yet.

So what do y'all think?

As played on Radio Clash recently, Loo & Placido 'DJ Affair' - I had a request and thought everyone should have this. Essential. And seemingly very rare...

Re-Design of a Decade - janet remixed

Monday, February 21st, 2005

Our sistah site Majick has a great janet remix/mashup album called Re-Design of a Decade, celebrating janet and 10 years since that album was released. Highly recommended, nair a duff track and includes big and soon to be big mashup names from the US, UK and Australia - names like Partyben, DJ Earworm, solcofn, Dj Scenius, Lenlow, Scenick, C.H.A.O.S. Productions, Andrew Herring, br0dy, DJBC, DJ Tripp, and last but not last (the mighty ) Pilchard!

Exercise some control, be par tof the rhythm nation, give in to the pleasure principle (okay that's enough - ed) and download here:
