You get really bad but unintentionally funny cartoons like this!

(thanks to b00mb0x blog! It’s been ages that something made me cry with laughter, especially the comments! Think it’s been around, but check it if you’ve not seen it.)

Googlezon plus one

Monday, August 8th, 2005

It’s not usually I blog stuff I see on other blogs (you know Blog Will Eat Itself and all that) but rarely you see something that has to be broadcast on all channels in big fluffy flashing neon lights with a few klaxons and air raid sirens thrown in…one of these is the recent news that Google has banned C:Net aka News Com from talking to them for a year! Why?

Well they dared reveal publically searchable information about the CEO of Google via, yes you guessed it, Google…obviously Google has ignored the first rule of the internet, you never put information out there unless you want the whole world to know; but it was fairly trivial information, it’s not like Paris Hilton with those hacked mobile phone numbers…

No I do think this is a smokescreen - what probably offended them more was the revelations about Google’s extensive capture of data about their customers; which is well worth reinforcing - ironic how they don’t see a problem with potentially invasive data capture but are really touchy about their CEO suffering same. Double standard?

The questions and accusations around Googlezon corporateness which sadly this ban proved the point the article was making.

Getting far too big for their boots I say - it’s about time for another new kid on the search engine block and they start to feel what Yahoo and Altavista and Lycos have felt…maybe they’d learn some humility.

London Booted double vinyl out September 5th!

Friday, August 5th, 2005

Some of you with long memories would have remembered either the release of London Booted (the London Calling remix LP) in April of last year; or more recently myself mentioning it on Radio Clash and playing the odd track…well it’s finally made it onto double-lp vinyl, so you can buy it in the shops from September!

It’s reet proper smart, with cover and everythin’! As before, all proceeds go to charity.

My track ‘Spanish Bombs (Over Baghdad) is on there, so not only it’s the first time I’m officially on vinyl (looks like somebody ‘booted’ this bootleg and released it in 2004, with quite a few others, which is an honour, wish I’d known or got a copy!) and I have a copy, it’s also listed on HMV.

Look ma! I’m famous! :-D

People seem to really like this track for some reason, I missed this Pitchfork review of another mashup back in Feburary that said “Which means that Instamatic’s blending of Outkast and The Clash, “Spanish Bombs (Over Baghdad)” is still the reigning “B.O.B.” bootleg champ.”. Wow.

I’ve been holding back the tracks to do a special on this - so look forward to hearing some of the London Booted tracks very soon on Radio Clash.

hack your iriver: for iRiver IFP-7xx/8xx owners

Thursday, August 4th, 2005

There’s a modified (ie unofficial) firmware that will allow uncrippled recording on the iRiver iFP7xx and iFP8xx series and works as UMS - ie. a proper flash drive, it appears as a hard-drive on your computer.

http://www.misticriver.net/boards/showth… (Misticriver is a great unofficial support site for iRiver products btw)

Not tried it yet but will do shortly…note there are reported probs with recording higher than 128kbs-160Kbs but better than a kick in the mouth (ie. 96kbs). Remember it formats your iRiver so back everything up.

Hopefully this will shame iRiver into doing something? I notice with disappointment that the newer Flash drives like the T20 don’t seem to use drivers or the IMS but still record line-in. Hmmph.
