Radio Clash 63: Invasion of the Bootleg Zombies

Tuesday, February 7th, 2006

If bootlegs are dead, then they are the undead party zombies of the world...last Bastard gets the 'best funeral ever'; GYBO gets a C&D and remains unrepentant and keeps going, and Tim gets on (down with) the mashup/download offensive armed with a shotgun and a cricket bat...

They're coming to get you, bootlegs: http://www.mutantpop.net/go.php?url=120

Bastard madness

More dan the gogo galThe last ever Bastard was a BLAST, totally insane and one of the classics...if it is the last, it went out with a bang (or as Holestar, someone I got to speak to at length at last, put it 'if Bastard is dead, then this is the best funeral ever'...you could say that about bootlegs in general*, as I put it on GYBO 'If bootlegs are dead no-one told people at Bastard!'

There was people dancing on tables, topless gogo-boys, there was a queue outside (that's never happened before), Holestar singingLionel's first set was 80's/elctro-bollox tastic and a real crowdpleaser, soundHog played a mostly indie-disco style set but dropped Dire Straits vs Dooms Night and the place just erupted.Wasn't so much into the late part of sH's set and the 2nd Lionel set - much harder, because of the door policy got really hot and then started getting a hangover I left at 2am. I actually felt bad leaving then, cos the whole crowd were going mad-for-it still.

I got me a freebie of Curdler, sH's record - thanks m73 and sH! So I'll check the CD in it out and let you know...

Supercollider, philmanns and Lump go Bastard crazy!

The news that greeted me when I got back that night is that GYBO has had a Cease and Desist; apparently now linking to objectionable files on other servers are not OK (news to me, I always thought it was hosting?) and the boots and tunes sections are now gone. Very sad, I used to get a lot of my mashups and tunes from there; but I'm not sure how legal it is to threaten people over linking to files - I thought the torrent trackers and Google won this fight? Gah!

Well it looks like partly the solution on GYBO has been to post the URL of the site, rather than the file. For the meantime tho MutantPop forum and I think the others (BootyPop, Majick and Boots N Remixes) will allow directly linked files, so if you want to post your boots and mixes, you're welcome to do it there. But I'm supporting GYBO too by posting links to my sites there...it is a real shame!

Late breaking news afterwards says that there'll be a Bastard in March; so another last ever Bastard WILL happen most likely. I'll keep you abreast of the details when I get 'em - and GYBO now has a 'Your Space' forum where you can post links to sites, not the files themselves...not as user-friendly as the old system, but still means you can promote your mixes....YAY!

* They're not dead of course, unless they are zombies that are grooving around like some insane crystal-meth monster mash chorus...

Radio Clash 62: Aural pOddities 2 Strange for Radio

Wednesday, February 1st, 2006

Revenge and return of the Aural pOddities show (31 shows since show 31!) where I talk about outsider music, from song poems to gay patriots, homosexual ghosts and really bad pop music!

Longest RC show yet; but it didn't seem right to split it - stick with it, there's a great chilled middle section long-mix...
