Change aka Loneliness of the Long Distance Podcaster

Thursday, January 18th, 2007

I can’t help the feeling that 2007 is going to be a year of change, for me personally, for Radio Clash and podcasting in general.

I’ve obviously only just been invited to the Slow Party because I’ve only just found out that Britcaster is no more - and that there is new forums Tea and Podcasts and the UKPA forum.

Regardless of what you feel about the forum stopping and it’s reasons (I’m not going to go into that little Adam-fuelled flamefest) I do think that podcasting, at least as it stands in the UK is changing…I’m not sure that the entrance into the UK over the last year of Podshow has been a positive benefit; I have mixed feelings of the ructions that has caused (intentionally or otherwise) and feel like the UK scene is fracturing, (if that rag tag fugitive fleet was ever together, that is). I always feared that would happen.

That said I hope as I always have that everyone in podcasting finds success, the people I know related to Podshow included.

What I do know is it feels weird to be one of the last original UK podcasters left; in fact one of the last of that first wave, to be honest. Kind of exposed, lonely even. Other (perhaps better) podcasts have come after me and gotten further - some directly inspired by this show (which is nice, I just wish they’d not be so good at it :-P), so at the moment I’m wondering about the direction of Radio Clash, and where to take it in 2007 (or maybe another show?) in future. I was down the pub with Kirk and we were talking about this, we have plans, we’ll see what happens. ;-)

At the moment I’m not sure what direction podcasting has, it seems rather in the balance. Certainly this seems like a time of flux; and I think I need to change my tactics.

Oh and waves to my dad, who’s the latest listener of Radio Clash. Woo-hoo!

DJing at Eclectic Kettle in Bristol 3rd Feb

Wednesday, January 17th, 2007

Hi, you might know me from such DJ nights as ‘When Bears Attack!’ and ‘When Bears Attack 2!’…

I’m DJing my favourite tunes in Bristol on Saturday the 3rd of February at Eclectic Kettle along with Phil n’ Dog and the WOB(cast) crew of Lumpy, AndrewHerring and Pete Juxtaposeur, at the Arctic Attic Bar in Stokes Croft.

Will be playing some of my musical influences (as featured in the next Radio Clash podcast) as well as tunes I like and think will go down well. Expect 80’s, hiphop, electro-disco, mashups, house and the like…

Flyage to follow(age).

Bootleg bonanza!

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

Over at my Multiply site I’ve released a lot of bootlegs from last year…kind of a new year’s cleanout!

Highlights include:

Ambient bootlegs from my tbc monicker including ‘Saturday Sunshine’ (Roy Ayers vs Boards of Canada) and a few demos I’ll probably never finish - Cowboy Mary being one (Scissor Sisters vs BOC)
Instamatic ‘Electric Loop’ - Pendulum meets Judas Priest…hear the bootleg that scared them so at Bootie! Run in terror from th dancefloor! Howl in laughter at the Ulysses samples (FACT: Ulysses 31 ripped off Electric Eye’s riff for the ‘action’ theme)

Juicy Clare - B52’s vs Strokes - always throught the bassline was a rip of Planet Clare. Spooky.

DJNoNo - Chitty Chitty Gang Bang (Julie Andrews vs Pendulum vs Capone) FINALLY gets released…still not 100% happy with it but it’s time to let it go and move on to something else.

DJNoNo’s JetBoy Flashback - Cyantific’s Flashback vs Elton Motello, still more of a playout boot than a listening boot, will probably never finish this…and there are a few more ‘No rarities there!

Eclectic Kettle with Kid Carpet pics now up!

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

Kid Carpet aka Ed Patrick
Kid Carpet aka Ed Patrick. Not an Axminster in sight…
Last minutedly (great grammar there Tim!) at the weekend I went down to Bristol to the January Eclectic Kettle at the Arctic Bar with Kid Carpet playing, along with the WOB crew (Lumpy, Juxtaposeur, AndrewHerring) and not only did they all play blinding sets, they also bucked the trend for a January night and PACKED the place!

So a massive success all round - watch out for these in future!

Also got to meet Angus and Phoebe’s (aka Mr and Mrs Herring) new babies - 2 kittens called Purdey and Presley…soooooooooo cute (despite the allergies) and stayed over at their place and got a lift back with Dog of Phil n’ Dog (thanks!) so it was a little bit of a SF reunion (Kid Carpet even played 99 Red Balloons, sending us all back to San Fran in a heartbeat!)

More Pictures of the night.
