4 da Crumpelchallenge on ze Discords.
Aphrodite – Sweet Mind Banana Splits – The Tra La La Song (One Banana, Two Banana) Run The Jewels – Banana Clipper Blazer Fresh – Banana Banana Meatball
Crumplbang Discord challenges that is (kind of like the old GYBO challenges). Why, what were you thinking of?
Enjoying my ‘retirement’ as an undead zombie producer so much I’ve done these mashups, and I think they are rather good. Decided to just post stuff and critics be damned.
The first one was done for the EDM challenge I’m rather proud of this one. The challenge was to have a song with an EDM drop in it – this is as close to EDM I’ll ever get, the new Bicep album Isles is ace.
And a rare thing from me – a multimash, well sort of, there are tracks from each artist – Bicep and Fleetwood Mac. You might not spot it, but I mixed in and out of Lido and Cazenove by Bicep – same key….And it uses Dreams and Tango In The Night by Fleetwood Mac – 1975 meets 1987 in this dreamy call and response. Dream house, indeed (yes that was a genre, once). And an acapella I made from that exceedingly hard to extract album.
The second was for last week’s Crumplbangers Discord challenge – which was to create a A vs B but add drums or percussion from another track. After a failed attempt to make a drum and bass Nirvana track about educational policy (ya rly) I decided to start again with the Old Skool Breaks idea and make a proper old school battle weapon. This is what I would enter the ring to, if I was DJing IRL anymore (and indeed if anything was open…)
I’m no stranger to mashing either of these artists together – my Genesis of the Rascals uses Fix Up Sharp vs the original Genesis as a naughty DJ Hero stealback, and also did a version with Stand Up – but weirdly never Old Skool by Dizzee even though I tried many times. And I never worked with the Think Break AFAIK. Also I never got a Phantom mashup to work back in the day either, so this is revenge as I used the WWW version which is a Justice mashup in itself.
It didn’t win the challenge, but got a respectable fourth in a field of 15 other entries. Not too shabby. Listening back to my other track, I might fix that and try and find a better vocal for it. Drum and bass Nirvana does work, just not with that vocal.
P.S. have to thank Ian from Shitty Mashups whose Episode 16 mashup using Justice’s Genesis with Young MC and Bruno Mars reminded me of how ace Genesis is under a hip hop track. Well why reinvent the wheel?
Did ya miss me m8ys? I nevah left! Just like CORVID-69 or wutever tis called.
Ere’s sum mash 4 yr cat 2 vibe to – or whatevah the kidz say nowadaze – Ievvan Polkka by Bilal Göregen – Eve’s Polka, she gits arund I hear – vs accordion cover by Sean Kelly of thar best poop song EVAH Donald Where’s Your Troosers on ze accordion (of COURSE!) n’ tha nuest sound – donkz n shit!. F

An Xmas Eve treat – a remastered lossless version of DJNoNo’s 2015 Ballroom EP, my silly concept ‘album’ mixing big band jazz, exotica, latin jazz, easy listening, bossa nova, cha cha, samba, swing, space age etc with hip-hop and rhythm and blues. It was supposed to be the first DJNoNo album but never really worked like that, too short anyway.
Planned as the first DJNoNo album in 2005, I finished Stripper Jackson and Cha Cha Like It’s Hot to a chorus of mass apathy so the project got shelved, although most of these tracks were planned back then.
Given that ten years later I was retiring – it didn’t last long – I revisited it and completed it with a few extra tracks – the Death Grips is definitely one of those as D.G. didnt exist in 2005! But the rest are pretty much as they were planned in 2005.
Listening back reminds me how I hated the humourless electro-swing toffs that came later and stole all of our ideas and then claimed they were there first! Big reason why it took ten years, didn’t want to touch electro-swing with a vintage antique barge pole!
I was surprised no-one had done this project in that period – given the rise of Strictly Come Dancing and ballroom dancing I thought it inevitable that someone would do it, saving me the bother. Nope.
DJNoNo’s First Album – Accordion Hero! (well if you don’t count Ballroom as an album, it is more like mini-album or long EP…that will be posted after this for the full DJNo ‘experience’). 16 years in the making it covers the best and a little of the rest of 2004-2020.
Silly mashups, bastard pop, soundclown, or crumplebangers – take your pick of label he spans the all! from the little red bootleg robot. Mixing accordions, hip hop, drum and bass, Julie Andrews, kid’s themes, rude songs, Muppets, cheesy golden oldies, dub reggae, rave and happy hardcore, balllroom big band ALL together! And making a totally dumb mess while doing it.
30 tracks including 3 bonuses and 5 unreleased or rare tracks that never made it past the podcast or a fleeting blog mention! Now all in HQ lossless – and only 3 of them are from MP3, the rest have been painstakingly sourced from lossless, remastered or tweaked/re-exported.
I found this on my hard drive too – DJNoNo – Fraggle Ross gets a video at last (Fraggle Rock vs SebastiAn’s Ross Ross Ross), did this mostly in 2013 for Kleptonite, just finished it up and sorted out some technical issues. Silly and stupid and rude…so very DJNoNo, and quite crumplebang?
I enjoyed putting potty-words in Red’s mouth and making Junior Gorg look like he was breakdancing, anyway. Probably last a week before Henson & co. pull it – I wouldn’t blame them! Sorry. I am a bad man.
Planned 10 years ago, the Ballroom EP (now album) has been a long time coming…two of the tracks were released (here in a remastered or better quality form) but the rest laid in the Unfinished folder.
Mixing ballroom music – big band, jazz, bossa nova, exotica, swing, easy listening and classical pops – with hip hop and r n’ b years before the term electroswing was invented, I’m surprised no-one has done an album concept like this in the last decade?
Dedicated to Mr Fab, Evolution Control Committee and all the Crumplebangers Crew.
Yea me hearteez, I iz bak wiv de aven janz or summat posh like dat – wiv de lethal originatorz, yup ya Fragglez, kikin’ it hard-style like.
