Sunderwall (Lil Oasis X) – Lil Nas X vs Oasis

Sunderwall Oasis Lil Nas X Sun Come Down Wonderwall mashup bastard pop blend cover Britpop queer pop

This almost became a Captain Obvious track, because to me, the new one from Lil Nas X – Sun Goes Down is basically Wonderwall by Oasis? It was either this or the Verve’s Lucky Man, there’s a real Britpop vibe with this song about struggling as a queer teen in the closet – I can totally relate. Maybe because when I was a struggling queer teen, Britpop was my soundrack.

This is a real lighter in the air track! I made it with the first night of clubbing in mind in June….as a sort of drunken ‘everyone come together’ closer. And also a first – I have never done a Wonderwall mashup in nearly 20 years. Came together really quickly because I suspect someone will do it very shortly…like other Lil Nas X tracks I put it out there and just hope it’s in key 😛 I think this one is….

Thanks to IamJstncrdble for the acapella.

You Never Give Me Your Montero (All Good Children Go To Hell mix – Lil Nas X vs Beatles)

Lil Nas X Montero Call Me By My Name vs Beatles You Never Give Me Your Money mashup bootleg bastard pop cover

New mashup and everyone is making Lil Nas X – Montero mashups so I thought I’d get down with the kids and have a go, since I love it and he has raised the game as a queer artist. Also Adriana from Bootie challenged people to make more original Montero mashups with more genre clash sources, so thought I’d have a go.

EDIT: New version of my Beatles vs Lil Nas X – Montero mashup. Yes still retired but I have unfinished business with that fricking acappella.

It’s apparently D sharp Phrygian. Really?

This is one of my favourite Beatles tracks – You Never Give Me Your Money – vs Montero (Call Me By Your Name) and is about that controversy when they well removing Montero from streaming services – what was that about? And of course I had to add in the children’s song at the end, but it’s more good children go to hell, right? Well us queer ones do, apparently.

I gave it a psych spin – set phasers to stun! Actually the acapella is quite psychedelic llike the video if you listen closely, a lot of strange production – and that auto-chorus/Vocoder From Hell which caused me problems otherwise this would have been up many days ago. Still not perfect, but if I get it 100% on my usual schedule, it’d be released in 2022!

Instamatic – You Never Give Me Your Montero (All Good Children Go To Hell mix – Lil Nas X vs Beatles)

There are more mashups to come, I’ve just been in a funk about polishing them, it seems a lot of work to get the last 1% perfect…but I have some really nice ambient ones coming up using my favourite band (not Beatles, no)

tbc – Helicon John (Beatles vs Mogwai)

tbc - Helicon John (Beatles vs Mogwai) Master of the Orpheus Legend The Death of Orpheus fourth quarter 15th century NGA 43957
“Master of the Orpheus Legend, The Death of Orpheus, fourth quarter 15th century, overall (diameter): 6.5 cm (2 9/16 in.) gross weight: 61 gr, Samuel H. Kress Collection, 1957.14.235”

I don’t usually do tribute mashups but was wanting to do something for the podcast to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the death of John Lennon, something with ‘In My Life’ and this popped out with Mogwai’s New Paths To Helicon 1 live at the BBC. Also includes clips from John Lennon RKO Interview on December 8, 1980 and a recording of NY FM radio the next day when his death was announced.

Very ambient, reflective, deep and very much me. And I don’t really care if anyone likes it, it needed to be done. This is for me.

The cover image is the death of Orpheus, killed by the Thracian Maenads for refusing their advances. Apparently “the river Helicon sank underground when the women that killed Orpheus tried to wash off their blood-stained hands in its waters…so as not to lend it’s waters to cleanse manslaughter.” – seemed oddly appropriate, but Mount Helicon is also the famous home to the Muses.

Masters of Mash interview with PimpDaddySupreme

Pimpdaddysupreme  PDSMix Masters of mash interview screenshot with Instamatic

Just a reminder that I’ll be talking to beardmeister Pimpdaddysupreme who is interviewing me part of his Masters of Mash series (who? me?) for 2 hours from 7pm BST this Wednesday 27th May (there might be something special if you turn up early though 😉 at his Twitch – PDSMix.

Pretty sure we’ll be talking mashups/bootlegs/bastard pop history, my background history and firsts, Bastard and UK bootleg scene, Bootie, this very blog and podcast, Bootleg Archive, videos and mashups I’ve done…unless we get distracted by our wonderful beards that is! 😉

A lot of tea will be dished (and cake, plenty of cake unless I eat it first). Be there or be somewhere else with a lot less beards. And where’s the fun in that?

New Depeche Mode mashup video for Rhythm Scholar

A story of Dave and his teddy bear – something spooky for Halloween, but for any day! Not created a mashup video for a while, created for Rhythm Scholar’s great remix with various 1950’s and 1960’s old film footage from public domain and Creative Commons sources such as Prelinger Archive. This marks my third Depeche Mode mashup video, after my Neon Sex People and Miss Cyberpink’s Strangeword.

Shout outs to Rhythm Scholar, Depeche Mode, Anton Corbijn and all who were involved with this remix (credits on the video), love your work.

And you can also hear the remix on my latest podcast, or download the extended remix and dub here.

Demis Roussos – Midnight Is The Time I Need You (fingertrouble’s Psychodelidisco mix)

Demis Roussos – Midnight Is The Time I Need You (fingertrouble’s Psychodelidisco mix)

This is a real Friday/Saturday jam, my remix of the long-forgotten Demis Roussos (sadly we lost him last year) classic from 1975, ‘Midnight Is The Time I Need You’.

When I heard this tune as with the Midnight Stud I not only fell in love with a dusty disco classic, I thought it needed to be longer as it was only ever a 7″ length track, more DJ-friendly, warped to the beat, remastered and general shininess added.

I listened to all the re-edits out there and found them good but a bit lacking…this indeed started as a re-edit, but I just kept adding stuff, so it’s the most remix-y remix I’ve done (usually I try and be more like edits, fairly transparent in what I add, mostly about structure and drums/bass)

You can download this Demis Roussos mix and other Psychodelidisco mixes on my Bandcamp.

New mashup – Bollywood in Space (Do it in Zero G) Babla Orchestra vs Freeland

New mashup - Bollywood in Space (Do it in Zero G) Babla Orchestra vs Freeland bollywoodinspace

Here’s another bit of quick throwaway silliness for the GYBO Weekend challenge (and seems to have gone down there well – please vote if you like it!)…yes there are proper tracks coming but most are still in the ‘need to tweak’ or ‘finished someday’ category!

The challenge was to do something with Freeland’s (quite disappointing really) ‘Do You’ so taking some early Sputnik age space samples and mixing with some Indian-space-disco (yes it exists!) from Babla Orchestra ‘Aye Mere Dil Kahin Aur Chal’* we have ‘Bollywood in Space (Do it in Zero G)‘.

EDIT: Like the Fela Chippy track before it, this won the GYBO Weekend challenge against some stiff competition! Winner gets to be regal for a week and gets to choose an acapella and instrumental – I chose Pet Shop Boys ‘Always on my Mind’ for instrumental and Thou Shalt Always Kill for acapella…and by that choice directly inspired 2 great tracks from Dunproofin and LV15 😀

* this is a space disco cover of a 1952 Bollywood track…

A new mashup for Pride – Standing in the Way of Jack White (Gossip vs Jack White)

Standing in the Way of Jack White cover

Just a quick one which I held back from playing in Saarbruecken, but it being Pride Month it seemed appropriate to release it, it being The Gossip’s expression of defiance about gay marriage and rights ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ vs The White Stripes ‘Seven Nation Army’ remixed in naughty bootleg form by Tim Deluxe. Oh and a little of Jack White berating hipsters not listening to the Greenhorns at a live show, on cue and amazingly perfectly in time with the music, preacher style. I was going for a very much club/DJ production on this, quite proud of how it sounds, and the little cutups and loops of the vocals. Would sound great from a Pride float *nudge nudge*

Standing in the Way of Jack White (The Gossip ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ vs ‘7 Nation Army’ – White Stripes Tim Deluxe remix)

Special thanks to Ian Fondue on this one, because him dragging me to Kaleidoscope and hearing the bassline of 7 Nation Army on their fairly dodge PA inspired this bootleg.
