Rare unreleased mashups

Having a clear out of the dusty mashup cupboards at NoNo/RadioClash Towers, and found quite a few unfinished or finished but unreleased mashups, or stuff that was on my old Multiply site and never got reposted.

So I’ve uploaded some tracks that fell off Soundcloud, were never really posted/uploaded apart from GYBO, or demos and rarities as well as the other tracks you (don’t) know and (don’t) love. First few are from the GYBO Weekend Challenge where you had only 1-2 days to create them using one or both of the posted acapella(s) or instrumental(s), and so are a bit rough and ready, like demos – but quite good all the same. I tended to only post the winning entries (I won the Weekend Challenge twice, with Bollywood In Space and the first one, Fela Down The Chip Shop. I Heard You Were Ill was another entry, but didn’t win.

britney

First up is Zombie Britney (Britney’s ‘Hold It Against Me’ vs T>Power’s ‘Blissed Out Snacking Zombies’) which was for Weekend Challenge #38 in 2011, wasn’t sure what to expect from this, but it works really well actually. Didn’t win though.

francis

Another for that challenge is Francis In The Desert which is Controlfreak ‘Desert Fox’ vs Sage Francis ‘Slow Down Ghandi’. Works pretty well, Controlfreak loved it – but it does go a little OOT towards the end, but remember all the challenges had to be done over a weekend.

And from Challenge #14 is S.W.A.T – Sugar Cube With Attitude (Compton Hit) – Sugarcubes – Hit with N.W.A. Straight Outta Compton. This works really well, didn’t win though.

Another demo that’s been hanging around for ages (since 2008!), was on this site’s player but not for download (officially) and probably won’t be finished is Silence Anywhere, Depeche Mode vs Presets.

A friend was trying to do a mashup/remix album about bass, and so I did Alternate Justice using Altern-8, Dizzee Rascal and Justice. I think it words surprisingly well, if a bit rough in places. I never really did a Justice track I was happy with, actually apart from DJ Contaminations which tbh was partly a DJ Hero rip!. This is not perfect towards the end, and shows it’s unfinished state, but most of it shows old skool rave flavour!

Another long-lost mashup is another Depeche Mode one, favourite of the Parkade is Impact Mode (Orbital – Impact vs DM’s Just Can’t Get Enough). Had a few goes at this, it’s 99% there. I probably should’ve released it properly, but as ever I just lose interest! EDIT: I did finish this and you can hear it here.

And last but no means least is Star Wars Gurls, a track I’ve had a few goes at and like the last ‘demo’ is pretty much there but got lost in the, err, ‘rush’ *ahem*. It’s Meco’s Star Wars theme vs Katy Perry featuring Snoop Dogg – California Gurls. I was intending to make a video for this, but again that never happened…in a galaxy far, far away, maybe. EDIT – I also finished this, well as finished as it was going to be.

And don’t forget to check out the one unreleased and the other reposted ambient mashups over at the tbc site.

Instamatic – Still Haven’t Found It (Negativland vs String Quartet 2014 version)

stillhaventfoundit U2 vs String Quartet

With the death of Casey Kasem Negativland released the stems for their litigious ‘hit’ ‘The Letter U And The Numeral 2’, which survived ten days before U2’s legal eagles swooped and had no sense of humour at all. Over ten years ago I mashed this up with the String Quartet version of ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ using a sparse version. Now the stems are out there, it made sense to revisit it….adding in more Casey. (RIP).

Original 2004 version is still on here.

Nasty Chewing Girls (Vanity 6 vs Annie)

In 2010 I’m planning to release the backlog of mashups that got to the sort-of-finished stage and I left due to apathy re: making the covers, mastering (how I HATE mastering – the 7″ version of this took 3 tries!) etc.

So here’s the first, a mashup idea that unusually came from someone else – namely Jeb 50PoundNote who asked why isn’t there a Nasty Girls vs Chewing Gum mashup in existence? A very good question indeed, and here’s the answer:

nastychewinggirls

This comes in two flavours, the ‘7″ Juicy Fruit’ mix and the ’12” Bubblicious Genius mix’ – not edits actually totally different mashups, second one I did first as I didn’t have the Chewing Gum instrumental (it’s on the flip side of the 7″) so I used the Headman Dub and Mix, but then Gavin Reborn Identity kindly provided it to me so hence the other version. The DJ version is of course faster, about 126bpm if memory serves, and as Chewing Gum is seriously influenced by Tom Tom Club’s Genius of Love I added a bit of my favourite intro to that song and little bits scattered throughout.

Big thanks to Jeb, Gav and Thomas who apparently couldn’t stop dancing along (that is praise indeed :-D)

UPDATE: Annie Strand herself (if it is her official account) tweeted about this mash! Woohoo! Thanks 😀 Glad you like it.

Fleetwood Mix – Go Your Own Steinway

Fleetwood Mix cover

As part of my Fleetwood Mac mashup album ‘Fleetwood Mix’ I’ve got a new track out called ‘Go Your Own Steinway‘ which is Eric Prydz ‘Pjanoo’ (Fred Falke mix) vs Go Your Own Way.

Also included is the original version of ‘White Witch Dub’ which you can get the later ‘Dubmatic’ version on this very site!

Don’t forget to also check out the great Fleetwood Mac mashups and mixes from DJ BC (current Bootie Top 10 Exclusive!), Celebrity Murder Party, LeeDM101, DJ FOX, RIAA and 10000 Spoons.

A new mashup for Pride – Standing in the Way of Jack White

Standing in the Way of Jack White cover

Just a quick one which I held back from playing in Saarbruecken, but it being Pride Month it seemed appropriate to release it, it being The Gossip’s expression of defiance about gay marriage and rights ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ vs The White Stripes ‘Seven Nation Army’ remixed in naughty bootleg form by Tim Deluxe. Oh and a little of Jack White berating hipsters not listening to the Greenhorns at a live show, on cue and amazingly perfectly in time with the music, preacher style. I was going for a very much club/DJ production on this, quite proud of how it sounds, and the little cutups and loops of the vocals. Would sound great from a Pride float *nudge nudge*

Standing in the Way of Jack White (The Gossip ‘Standing in the Way of Control’ vs ‘7 Nation Army’ – White Stripes Tim Deluxe remix)

Special thanks to Ian Fondue on this one, because him dragging me to Kaleidoscope and hearing the bassline of 7 Nation Army on their fairly dodge PA inspired this bootleg.

Florida Ghost Tour (Flo-Rida vs Deadmau5)

floridaghosttour

One of the new tunes I played in Saarbruecken *cough* sorry DJNoNo played in Saarbruecken – was this new one – I’d not heard Deadmau5’s ‘Ghost n’ Stuff’ – great spooky electro action a la Phantom – but when I did and heard his great Salt n’ Pepa bootleg I thought I could go one better – so here’s one of my guilty pleasures, Low by Flo-Rida with Deadmau5’s ‘Ghost n’ Stuff’ appropriately called ‘Florida Ghost Tour’

Shut Up And Ting – Ting Tings vs Shut Up And Dance

shutupandting-cover

As part of my run up to DJing in Saarbruecken, Germany next weekend (I’m on at 1am Saturday – well it’ll be Sunday by then – 16th May, Room 1 at the 6nul3 club, just before Pilchard and the Who Boys! You can see the flyer here) I’ve been producing quite a few mashups and getting back into the swing of things, along with doing some mashups for the 72 project (Timbearland and Instamatic are me ;-).

Here’s one I may not play in Saarbruecken – it doesn’t currently fit in my set, but if the response is good I might play it 🙂 It’s a A vs B of the Ting Ting’s Great DJ (7th Heaven Mix) which sounded a bit empty to me so I make it more squelchy, harder, more uptempo and nu-breaksy by adding Shut Up And Dance’s ‘Make the Needle Jump’ from their last excellent album ‘The Great British Public’. I hope you enjoy, and maybe will see some of you in Saarbruecken? Certainly I have several new tracks, an audio-visual extravaganza and a cracking set.

Oh and to those few who might have heard this before, this is the Mastered version, LOL.
