I am seriously behind posting my mashups to my site and here – check my Sowndhaus page for the up-to-date latest releases, but this recent mashup made the Bootie Top 10 for June – surprised because it features Negativland, not the usually most ‘pop’ of artists (although they are popstars in my heart…) but the rest is very radio friendly.
It mixes Genesis with more memories of 1986 with ‘Throwing It All Away’ – one of my first albums was Invisible Touch and I still stand by that album – mixed with U2’s stadium-bothering I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For and the lawyer-bothering ‘The Letter U and the Numeral 2’ acapella and ‘radio edit’ which U2 famously nuked and is a part of mashup/copyright history.
I even did a ‘booper’ radio version – I asked The Weatherman if I could use some of his booper and he said yes, so I took some bits to edit out the rudeness, still think those bits are too strange for radio, but Stranger Things have happened (see what I did there?)
And appropriately for the 4th of May, here’s the 4th volume of my best-of series ‘Kodiak Moment’ taking us up to the modern day – 2012-2020. Includes tracks from my last retirement which lasted a lot longer than this one, and even includes a Star Wars mashup as well (Star Wars Gurlz from 2015).
We even have three mashups from what I call ‘How To Mash In An Apocalypse’ series, about the lockdown and pandemic – and the first track that lead into the Black Block album.
For the first time we have the few of my viral hits in lossless quality and remastered – ‘Her Breath Is The Wind’ and the Captain Obvious swansong ‘Madonna Has A Kiki’ which still crops up in the oddest places still (a dance class video was my favourite). Most bar the newer tracks have been remastered, and there are three bonus tracks.

With the death of Casey Kasem Negativland released the stems for their litigious ‘hit’ ‘The Letter U And The Numeral 2’, which survived ten days before U2’s legal eagles swooped and had no sense of humour at all. Over ten years ago I mashed this up with the String Quartet version of ‘I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For’ using a sparse version. Now the stems are out there, it made sense to revisit it….adding in more Casey. (RIP).

A lot of my old boots/mashups haven’t been online for years – most people don’t know I’ve created something like 50+ mashups as Instamatic since 2003, more as DJNoNo and as tbc and various aliases…there have been quite a few mashups ‘retrospectives’ recently, and the odd request to find various tracks so here is my Greatest Misses…tracks that fell down the cracks!
Also a few tracks such as the Jump megamix (Jump x2 and Renegade Trouble) and the Too Many Egos haven’t been properly released before.
Also includes my first released mashup – FSOL vs Peaches, so you can see how farlittle I’ve developed…I did think ‘shall I redo some of these?’ or fix some of the mistakes I can hear now – I thought not since I hate that when say bands re-release ‘tweaked’ or ‘improved’ versions of old songs. Publish and be damned!
Thanks to RevMenagerie who requested my Negativland / String Quartet mashup…
NOTE: Some of these tunes are severely NSFW – especially FCUKK Fashion…
Brightside Slippy(never totally finished since I was afflicted by a sudden inexplicable hatred of the Killers)
Fire (Bootie edit of a minimix – DJ Zebra mixed into Fire mix (Grandmaster Scott vs Radio4 vs Electric6 vs Trammps)
Jump minimix – Ludakriss / Jumpx2/ Renegade Trouble – first time online! (Made for Uprising 3.5, also played in part at Bastard –
Kid Carpet / Ludacris vs Kriss Kross / House of Pain vs Kriss Kross / Wildchild vs Beasties)
and from the DJNoNo canon, a few rarities:
I Love Happy Hardcore(Fuck Happy) – first DJNoNo boot, done for a Happy Hardcore competition where mrNo shows how much he likes Happy Hardcore…
Too Many Egos – full version (various based on the odd acapella version of EgoRocker and a pisstake of several Ego-Rocker boots – a short 70s version that eventually appeared on Marty Batfreak’s 100 mix)
Em is a Naggin Fly(Crossover vs Eminem vs Roy Orbison – pisstake of Eminem boots and mrNo trying to prove Bush No.10 wrong when he said Eminem boots now didn’t work. Did thaNo succeed? Erm, pass…)
