It was a Video Game Challenge last week, and I had fun messing with the music of various games. One of the few games I totally fell in love with and was obsessed by for months if not years was Fez, the 2D/3D platformer from 2012. A big part of that was the music. The game had a deep significance for me, something almost spiritual?
These two from Rich Vreeland aka Disasterpeace’s soundtrack for Fez vs Weeknd were the result, but I think this glitchy one was a bit too late for the challenge. Fun with the Hysteresis plugin.
Call Yr Fez (Weeknd – Call Out Your Name vs Disasterpeace – Sync/Glitch (from Fez))
And I love all my mashup children but this one is my favourite. Something about the Weeknd plus Fez’s distorted glitchy mournful soundscapes just works – but Ariana brings human warmth especially at the end, which always makes me smile.
I’m sure it’ll fall into the black hole that all my other ‘You Won’t Like It’ ‘record label’ releases have fallen into, and was totally ignored like all my entries for the challenge (but oki’s amazing Queen mashup toitally deserved to win) but this is very much how I hear things.
P.S. this is my first Ariana Grande mashup EVER!
Save Yr Fez (Weeknd & Ariana Grande – Save Your Tearrs vs Disasterpeace – Adventure (from Fez))
Last week’s challenge was video game tunes, so of course I chose my favourite games – although in this case, it’s my favourite game soundtrack, I’ve never played Katamari Damacy or sequels!
Yes this is Senor Coconut remixing Katamari on the Funk it’s on the game soundtrack for Katamari Forever…and works perfectly with Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine.
I wanted to do a mashup with Katamari on the Rocks, this is my third attempt since the 00’s, but it’s just too busy. So hence Senor Cocounut’s more stripped back take on Shibuya-Kei (this in fact probably was my first musical experience of that genre back in the mid 00’s) worked better.
Merengue! Cha Cha Cha!
Fun fact: as an 80’s teen I was a MASSIVE Gloria Estefan err, fan. Had several of her – well Miami Sound Machine’s – 80’s albums including Anything For You that included ‘Rhythm…’.
Making her into the King (Queen?) of All The Cosmos is all kinds of funny though for the artwork….
DJNoNo has been so busy trying to sell knock-off Gameboys and novelty facemasks – I told him it’s a bit late for both – that he asked me to post this for him. An entry to the Crumplbangers Reggae weekly challenge, it seems to be a ska Tetris theme / DJ Assault ‘Ass N’ Titties’ crossover partly nicked from CheapyD but different sources, so not totally a reboot? Who knows with DJNoNo.
It’s very rude, crumpl and err, 8 bit? Well 64 bit since he handed me a crumple dirty fag packed with the sources scibbled on – it’s DJ Assault – Ass n Titties (Remix?) vs Prince Fatty – The Good, The Vlad and the Ugly and some N64 beeps. As you do.
