Emotional mashups 1: Rainy Days and Hexagons rainydaywordgame@0.5x

Trying something rather emotional MoodyMash with a rainy day breakup theme for the Crumplbanger Discord Film Music challenge.

More experimental downtempo and layered than my usual stuff, trying to push the tbc/downtempo stuff into interplay and more variety of sources – I mean Aphex, Burial, Scott Walker, Magnetic Fields AND Nina Simone? With MY reputation? And more inspired by the old Colatron snootlejams of old.

Oh it uses Brian Eno – An Ending (Ascent) written for For All Mankind. a documentary film about the Apollo space missions. Also there aren’t many Magnetic Fields mashups at all – this uses All The Little Words, and far too fiew Burial and Nina Simone ones.

Created for the Crumplbangers Discord Challenge for ’emotional’ mashups, there aren’t enough folk mashups, especially with electronica, and I’m a massive Sandy Denny fan, which her Quiet Joys of Brotherhood was a Fairport Convention track originally but this is a later version with her solo….a paean to lost times where man was in sync with the land. And yes that is Greta Thunberg wandering in during the mix.

Big fan of Boards of Canada – and yes had a lot of fun quietly working a lot of hexagons in this video – my first real Davinci Resolve Fusion animations…woo! Learning a lot about the deeper features of Resolve, kind of why I am doing these videos to thoroughly learn the package as I tend to stick to editing and composite modes usually.

tbc aka Instamatic - The FIrst And The Last Time (I Walk Away) (Roberta Flack vs Low).

BONUS – I missed this one. Low isn’t mashed much – if at all… and this has a real vibe. And given the recent death of Mimi Parker this mash has new and deeper meanings….

A cri de coeur; I love the HEY WHAT Low album especially ‘Don’t Walk Away’ – it has a lot of personal resonance for me, and the very experimental layered production. And Roberta Flack’s The First Time oddly works with it – the first flush of love with the last goodbye, so I made a mashup that has both, as a sort of call and response. The memory of what once was (intentionally Day Before You Came esque) and the call to try and save it, the probable ending.

Far from a happy pop banger; and won’t go near any frontpages any time soon, but it’s what I am feelimg.
