I wasn’t planning to make this sort of mashup with Journey’s Separate Ways – but I tried it and it worked. Michael Nyman is an important figure in my early music listening, I was obsessed with Peter Greenaway’s films as an art student, watched them all including his early films.
Big part of that was Nyman’s scores – it got me into classical music especially Handel (my favourite soundtracks – Draughtman’s Contract which this is from, and Drowning by Numbers borrowed the ground bass figures from Purcell or Handel) and early music – something that stays to this day. I actually weirdly don’t like the proper ‘classical’ era and skip after Mozart to Holst and Ives and modern classical.
This track ‘The Garden Is Becoming A Robe Room’ is one of my favourites – if you think it starts slow and funereal, just wait….
So yeah I seem to have made Power Neo Classical a thing? There aren’t many Nyman mashups, DJNoNo made a crappy one a lot time ago which was a demo, aware that I think @ah! made one for his film music project, but that’s about it.
