A nostalgic mashup for the end of summer, and originally made for Useo’s Summer Booty but not finished in time – so doubly fashionably late for the beach party!
Solar Power meets Bobby Goldsboro’s The First Time, a forgotten classic from 1973. Even has the same hint of menace/weirdness at the end like the original Solar Power track.
And appropriately for the 4th of May, here’s the 4th volume of my best-of series ‘Kodiak Moment’ taking us up to the modern day – 2012-2020. Includes tracks from my last retirement which lasted a lot longer than this one, and even includes a Star Wars mashup as well (Star Wars Gurlz from 2015).
We even have three mashups from what I call ‘How To Mash In An Apocalypse’ series, about the lockdown and pandemic – and the first track that lead into the Black Block album.
For the first time we have the few of my viral hits in lossless quality and remastered – ‘Her Breath Is The Wind’ and the Captain Obvious swansong ‘Madonna Has A Kiki’ which still crops up in the oddest places still (a dance class video was my favourite). Most bar the newer tracks have been remastered, and there are three bonus tracks.
Mashups are like buses, you wait years then they all get cancelled and you give up. Sorry, two come at once, that’s the saying, right? 🙂 After DJNoNo’s very silly Unhappy Hardcore EP, you have this downtempo number which inspired this Not-Going-To-Finish-This-So-Here-It-Is dump because it came around randomly and I was ‘that’s not bad!’. Which is always a surprise to me.
It’s Procol Harum’s A Whiter Shade of Pale vs Lorde’s Liability (including the reprise, which is slower which caused all kinds of issues) which was fresh and new then, but this was created in February last year (!). I do sometimes create mashups but rarely feel the need to spend days polishing them. This is a bit rough but I think it has a good mood and fits well and the bits that don’t ‘the kids will never know’ or they aren’t massively wrong….not really selling it am I? Have a listen and see what you think – When Lorde Went Psych!
Ahoy mateys! Bin off cruising the world on me Mashup Pirate Ship, had sum shore leave last year n’ me ol’ mucker PomDeter wanted to create a new crew called Unhappy Hardcore, plunderin’ and mashin’ the seas but it didn’t work out.
So I did this E Pee. Unhappy Hardcore, Repressed Rave, Troubled Techno, Depressive Dance, call it wot u will, but it’s bangin m8, bangin’ in a sort of anti-depressant kinda way. Some r demos, some r moar final like, but all have teh DjNoNo Skid Mark of Quality.
