Created for the Crumplbangers Schlager Challenge.
Not many know that Boney M’s ‘Gotta Go Home’ – as more famously sampled by Duck Sauce is actually a cover – of Nighttrain’s Hallo Bimmelbahn, the melody and backing vox are totally lifted from that. The authors got cowrites on the Boney M ‘version’ which sadly doesn’t mention land trains at all, meh. (A Bimmelbahn is those road train things). It works really well with Elton John’s Bennie And The Jets.
Now DJNoNo wasn’t sure if the 1973 pop original was ‘schlager’ enough – although given the subject it’s pretty schlager – cutesy, stupid, bubblegum, but then found this modern cover? remix? by Buddy Poke which was on PARTY SCHLAGER STIMMUNG! so pretty sure it’s schlager. It’s cheesy German techno pop, if that’s doesn’t qualify as modern schlager then I don’t know what does.
So Barbra and Bennie take a Bimmelbahn with the Jets!
Also why does Babs Streisand’s name look like it’s missing an A?
