Trying to find good mashups of Kylie’s current hit ‘Padam Padam’ was like finding rocking horse shit – turns out it’s in a really odd key, well mode…C Mixolydian b6 which I thought was a Star Trek planet , aka ‘melodic major’ or aeolian dominant – or one of the Hindu Raga scales (that makes more sense, really got a Bollywood vibe off the Padam Padam bits). It’s this year Montero, hard to work with cos of the autotuned harmonies, they clash with everything in places. This was the closest match.
Padam Padam is this year’s Montero, using some odd harmoniser which pulls it off key, so there’s always going to be bits that aren’t going to totally fit. This version is much closer but I challenge anyone kvetching about slightly blue notes to try and make a Padam Padam mashup with a highly melodic backing (simple beats/electronica will be fine, but strings? I really made a rod for my own back here). Also I can’t afford a decent vocoder – all the good ones are paid – which might have helped here. Doubtful since vocodered chords/harmonies usually sound shit.
I know nothing of such witchcraft, so I looked online at YouTube videos and found that a song I’ve always wanted to mash and always failed – Twilight by ELO is in that weird mode! Result!
And it’s a banger….and as it’s about a man going forward in time to 2095- the Twilight is him falling through time I think and realising he can’t get back – I’m also submitting it for the current Sci-fi challenge.
