Over 2 years ago Adam Schlesinger died, and I was gutted since Fountains of Wayne were a bit part of my post-Britpop comedown listening (less Stacey’s Mom, more Radiation Vibe). And their best song was never a single, it was a later album track called Hackensack – even Katy Perry covered it!
So I was discussing FoW as Lewis Wake had recently done a FoW mashup for the last Crumplbangers Discord Challenge. I pointed out that Taylor Swift probably borrowed the ‘hometown love of a star’ theme from this song…they are almost the same tempo and 1 semitone apart as well.
So of course I had to mash them…even though I’m officially on ‘holiday’ until 2023. And it turned out to be probably one of the best things I’ve done. It has ALL the feels. I know far too well what being stuck in a small hometown longing for someone distant or for the ‘Glamorous Life’ is like – hold my alcopop and Spar chipsticks, I have this one!
As I said on the Bootie Chatpod: 2023 IS EPIC! All about the epicness I think.
And I’ve been accused of being a Swiftie. Not exactly, I just find her themes of her last two albums and her remakes inspiring. I think she has come into her own, matured a lot recently.
